Subaru WRX…Raging With The Machine

2016-subaru-wrx_extIf every single girl drove a Subaru WRX for just one day Tinder, OkCupid and Plenty of Fish would go out of business because they would be booed-up real quick. The masculine appeal goes against the grain of what ‘girls’ are supposed to drive and I love that! What girl wouldn’t want to be the object of EVERY red-blooded American male’s attention? Just laying eyes on the wide-body design and scoop started the adrenaline-induced daydreams to take flight. But it wouldn’t be a daydream this was real-life. As my eyes fixated on the sporty exterior they began to trail from the mesh grille with the signature 6-star badging then dropping below to the embedded fog lights and LED low-beam headlamps. The rear of the WRX is just as snazzy as the front. An integrated rear spoiler, cool lines and four chrome-accented exhaust pipes give this 4-door, 5-seater high-performance sedan even more edge. Classic in its approach, the WRX Limited isn’t cluttered up with unnecessary design elements, its clean and to the point.

2016-Subaru-WRX-engineAll the ogling of the WRX Limited had to come to an end and it was time to unleash the power. Sitting on top of 18-inch dark finish alloy wheels wrapped in summer performance tires the WRX can rage on the mean streets of Southern California. Harnessing 268 ponies from a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged BOXER® direct-injected four cylinder engine and leaping out the gate with 258 lb-ft of torque I was ready for ride. While I didn’t get to bend any corners like the drifting pros, the WRX grips the road like Krazy Glue was in its DNA. Navigating through the streets via the all-wheel drive of this rally-inspired sedan was exhilarating. Racing features like the 3-Spoke flat-bottom leather-wrapped tilting and telescoping steering wheel and Sport seats conjure up thoughts of hitting the track. The MPG is cool with a combined 21-MPG (19-city and 25-highway). Mustering up the willpower to stay under the speed limit was an act of Congress, but I did it.

2016-Subaru-WRX-interiorThe Sporty and racing vibe carries over into the interior of the WRX Limited. The dash has a cockpit inspired feel with chrome pedals, Electric Power-Assisted system, leather-trimmed upholstery, sport-designed instrument panels and gauges, 8-way power driver’s seat, 3.5-inch LCD central screen and a 4.3-inch driver-configurable multi-information display. The WRX Limited is not only about a sport-themed experience it also has a user-friendly entertainment component. Optional features include 9-speaker, 440-watt harmon/kardon audio sound system and 7.0” SUBARU STARLINK™ multi-gesture touchscreen infotainment with navigation.

EyeSight

The EyeSight® safety suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Steering Responsive Fog Lights and Lane Keep Assist. Actually the Lane Keep Assist did take some getting used to, but in a good way. The gentle guiding to keep you safety between the lanes and constantly reminds the driver to use the turn signal. To add to the safety of the WRX, Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection System (Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert) and EyeSight® are also included.
