TV One continues to throw their hat in True Life, Made-For-TV genre. When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story marks the directorial debut for Tasha Smith (Why Did I Get Married, Empire, For Better or Worse) as she weaves a harrowing tale of sex, love, betrayal, and murder.
Falicia Blakely (Lil Mama, Crazy, Sexy, Cool-The TLC Story), a teen mother and exotic dancer desperate for love and a better life meets Dino (Lance Gross, Deuces, House of Pain) a slick talking pimp who preys on her weaknesses and insecurities, leading her down a path of abuse and despair, while her mother (Tami Roman, Basketball Wives) laid the foundation for downfall. The seemingly man-of-her-dreams runs textbook game on the lovelorn Falicia and tragically alters her life forever.
Tasha has revealed her own troubled past stating, “When I was 14, I dropped out of school – a lot of people don’t know that. By the age of 16, I was bartending in a strip club, by the age of 20 I was stripping…so I understand how Falicia got there,” says the first-time film director. “By the grace of God, I ended up here, but she ended up in jail for the rest of her life.”
