Toyota has tapped into my inner road warrior with the 2015 Toyota 4 Runner 4X4 Limited V6. On approach the 4 Runner seems massive, but it wasn’t too much for this 4’11 Diva to handle especially with the automatic running board. Once planted in the driver’s seat, I felt at home. Because every Diva likes a little sparkle, the chrome accents around the front grille, door handles and roof rails are the perfect accessories. The monochromatic accents on the bumper, rocker panels and rear spoilers add to the “let’s do this” personality of the 4-Runner.
As soon as the Start Button was pressed the fun began. Heading down the highway I felt like I could give Mad Max a run for his money. The power of the 4.0-Liter DOHC 24-Valve V6 engine w/ Dual Independent VVT-I paired up with a 5-Speed Auto Transmission with ECT-I and Power-Assisted Rack-and-Pinion Steering allowed me to bob and weave my way through traffic and even up and over the Santa Monica and Malibu Mountains. While I wasn’t off-roading, the Hill-Start and Downhill Assist Control were calming features to have just in case. What I will say is that the Front and Rear Vented Disc Brakes were put to use on the winding back roads. The Star Safety System with Stability and Traction Control earned its keep on the gravel-laden roads in more rural areas of Southern California. The mileage of this road warrior is ok at a combined 18-MPG. The great part is that with the gas prices falling, the sting at the pump isn’t so bad.
The interior of the 4-Runer is roomy, comfortable snazzy. The heated, leather driver’s seat is very much the captain’s perch. Actually every seat is a comfortable ride that offers up various seating options. The rear seats offer a 40/20/40 split with a reclining and fold flat second row and the optional third row. Getting to the third row is seamless with the Passenger Side One-Touch Access. Of note, safety was not forgotten when riding in the third row with Third-Row Curtain Shield.
The entertainment factor of the 4-Runner is right on point with a tag team of the Entune Suite powered by JBL. The huge 6.1 Hi-Resolution Touch Screen for all things electronic is vibrant and very user-friendly. HD Radio, Bluetooth Connectivity, AUX, CD, and SiriusXM are just at the tip of your finger. Through 15 speakers your favorite artist’s songs filled the inner cabin and with some minor EQ customizing, Foreign Exchange, Sam Smith and Rachelle Farrell had this lil’ Diva rockin’!
Nicely equipped at $46,170, Toyota even throws in a $1,000 30th Anniversary discount to sweeten the deal.Check out the 2015 4-Runner and other fine Toyota products here.
