2015 Challenger SXT Plus…Old School Swag, New School Cred

2015 Dodge Challenger SXT PlusGrowing up Detroit, the automotive mecca, it was a daily occurrence to see muscle cars rolling through the neighborhood or on the main drag downtown. Dodge is stirring up those fond memories again with the 2015 Challenger SXT Plus. Massive in size and power, the Challenger SXT Plus will place any driver in muscle car nirvana. From the onset the grille seems to greet you with a snarl framed by two piercing eyes…I mean…glowing HID headlights that set the stage for an adrenaline-laced driving experience. 2015 Dodge Challenger 392 HEMI® Scat Pack ShakerLeaving onlookers in the dust, the LED Split Tail Lamps rock out flanked by a body color rear spoiler. This super coupe amps up its retro-inspired sexiness with trademark bold lines, monochromatic door and side mirror coloring, blacked out hood and grille vents and enough of chrome accents to keep it out of the “I once danced at the ‘original’ Studio 54” range.

While driving this Challenger, I found myself experiences conflicting emotions of nostalgia and modern day euphoria. Driving this Challenger was like listening to Al Green’s and Maxwell’s versions of “Simply Beautiful.” Green’s classic rendition embodies the soul of R&B in its heyday (much like the Challenger) and Maxwell’s version is a smoothed-out version of a classic gem (again…much like the Challenger).

The spirit of the Challenger’s 70’s inspired persona lingers through the air with its 3.6-liter, V-6, 24-Valve VVT Engine and TorqueFlight 8-Speed Automatic Transmission. Speaking of that conflict, V-6 and power aren’t always synonymous when speaking of muscle cars, so much so that my 16-year old car enthusiast nephew Anthony’s first question was “Is it a V-8?’ It’s not, nor was it a shrinking violet. Popping off from the gate, the Challenger did not disappoint. The sweet spot was unleashing its 305 ponies in a straight a way on the 405 during a rare moment the traffic Gods smiled on me. A plus (excuse the pun) was that while harnessing a V-6 engine, the 19/30-MPG was well worth the engine choice.

Safety also comes into play with the Challenger SXT. Features like: Rain Brake Support, Ready Alert Braking, ParkView™ Rear Back-Up Camera (one of the most high-quality displays I have ever experienced), Forward Collision Warning System, and Sentry Key® Theft Deterrent System bring about an added sense of security.

The ride of the Challenger SXT Plus is smooth with the Sport Suspension and Electronic Stability Control and the All Speed Traction Controls features in play. The Challenger SXT does away with the excessive shimming of muscles cars from days gone by and offers up a leveled and secure ride. You know that shake that would cause the “girls” to bounce around under that tight t-shirt. On second thought, some guys might miss that…lol!

2015 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus (shown in Ruby Red/Black)The interior of the Challenger SXT is just as sexy as the exterior. A true 5-seater, the Challenger does a masterful fete of blending the old with the new. Race-inspired heated and ventilated front seats (6-way Driver and 4-Way Passenger), a comfortable bench rear seat, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with Audio Controls any “what happens in Vegas” road trip would be experienced in complete comfort on 20”inch Polished Aluminum wheels.

2015 Dodge Challenger Uconnect SiriusXM Travel LinkThe tech-savvy features are the yen to the yang of this multiple-personality beast.
